War of Words Begins..

It seems Freddie Mitchell misses too many opportunities to say nothing... The Philadelphia Eagles receiver— the one without the Pro Bowl pedigree — offended some Patriots when he insulted their secondary in a television interview. Mitchell singled out Patriots safety Rodney Harrison when he insulted the defending champion's secondary - saying - he just 'knew the numbers — not the names — of New England's cornerbacks'. In itself that probably did not bother the Patriots who do not exactly crave the limelight, however, Mitchell went on to say that he "has something" for the veteran strong safety...
Harrison said: "You have so many young guys nowadays, so many young guys that don't have respect for the game....Some people are just immature. Some people really haven't experienced certain things."
One thing Mitchell should learn is not to make the best team even more determined on the eve of the biggest game of the season.

Brady Hot

It has been revealed that Tom Brady had a one hundred and three degree fever the night before the Patriots v Pittsburgh game in the AFC championship game...no wonder he was so hot.

Final Four - Bet the Falcons?

When it gets down to the "final four" in the NFL playoffs you can do a lot worse than simply take the team with biggest price to win the Super Bowl. The Panthers nearly came through last year, Tampa were the big price going into the semis in 2003 and the Patriots were outsiders the year before that. "Anything can happen in Football" or any sport for that matter....This year it's the Atlanta Falcons who need to win at Philadelphia in order to progress. The Eagles are a little "shaky" when they get to this stage of the season. At prices of up to 7/1 on Atlanta and 3/1 for the Eagles I'd have little hesitation in taking the Falcons...whether that price still looks good value against the Patriots or the Steelers in the final, remains to be seen...

"50" - A Nice Round Number

Where all eyes are on Superbowl XXIX in the US - across the Atlantic Chelsea are stirring up things in the UK's Premiership (EPL). It was in 1955 that Chelsea won their last title and it is theirs to "throw away" 50 years on in 2005 . Eleven points clear is a lot in the EPL but the season has a way to go and most CFC fans would like 13 or 14 points between them and second spot to feel absolutely secure..

Playoff Schedule

Atlanta at Philadelphia - Sunday 23 Jan - 3 p.m. (EST)
New England at Pittsburgh Sunday - Sunday 23 Jan - 6:30 p.m. (EST)

Philadelphia Eagles Bowl Bound?

When the Philadelphia Eagles last paid a visit to the Super Bowl, the Supreme Court did not have any women, more than half of today's existing thirty or so NFL stadia had not even been built, e-mail wasn't yet available to the public and "big hair" was the order of the day....yep, it was 1980...don't tell us there is no pressure on Philly to make Superbowl XXIX...
